Wet Weather Camping Guidelines

  1. Pack your clothes and other gear in 1-gallon zip lock bags.... press all the excess air out and they will stay dry and pack tight.
  2. Keep your sleeping bag DRY using a waterproof stuff sack or double bagged plastic garbage bags. Leave it in the waterproof container until you are ready to crawl in. Pack it back up when you get out in the a.m.
  3. Have something dry to sleep in. 60 degrees and wet is much colder than 60 degrees and dry.
  4. Bring a closed cell foam-sleeping pad to keep between you and the ground (the $5.00-$10.00 variety from Target/Wal-Mart will work).
  5. Keep your feet as dry as possible...Extra wool or synthetic socks are good.
  6. If you have a pack cover bring it... if not, plastic garbage/leaf bags will work.
  7. Be sure that you have your rain gear.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to accept the fact that we WILL get wet and be mentally and physically prepared to deal with that. A positive outlook will OVERCOME a great deal of physical discomfort.
